In a continued push to accelerate cooperative sector reforms, Dr. Ashish Kumar Bhutani, Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, chaired a high-level review meeting with Registrars of Cooperative Societies (RCS) and senior officials from States and Union Territories at Atal Akshay Urja Bhawan, New Delhi.

The meeting focused on assessing the progress and implementation status of key cooperative initiatives launched by the Centre. It served as a platform to strengthen coordination between the Central Government and States/UTs to ensure smoother execution of reform measures aimed at revitalising the cooperative ecosystem.

Dr. Bhutani emphasised the importance of timely implementation of policies and programmes, urging officials to adopt a more coordinated and results-oriented approach. He underlined that cooperative reforms must translate into tangible benefits at the grassroots level, empowering primary societies and ensuring inclusive growth. Stressing the vision of “Sahkar se Samriddhi,” he called for enhanced synergy among all stakeholders to make cooperatives more transparent, efficient, and member-driven.

The review meeting examined various structural, digital, and governance-related initiatives being rolled out across the country. Discussions centred on streamlining regulatory processes, strengthening monitoring mechanisms, and ensuring better communication between the Ministry and State-level authorities. Officials also deliberated on addressing operational challenges faced by cooperative institutions and improving service delivery to members.

The meeting was attended by Pankaj Kumar Bansal, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation; Joint Secretaries Anand Kumar Jha, Raman Kumar, and Siddharth Jain; and Directors Pankaj Srivastava, Kapil Meena, and Kumar Ram Krishna, along with other senior Ministry officials. Senior officers and key cooperative stakeholders from participating States joined virtually, reflecting a broad-based engagement across regions.

The deliberations highlighted the Centre’s continued commitment to reform-driven governance in the cooperative sector. By bringing together policymakers and regulators on a single platform, the Ministry aims to ensure uniformity in implementation and faster adoption of reforms across States.

The review concluded with a collective resolve to intensify monitoring, improve accountability, and accelerate on-ground execution, reinforcing cooperatives as a vital pillar of India’s socio-economic development.
