In a major push to strengthen farmer collectives in Assam, 15 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs) promoted by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (NAFED) have been selected under the Mukhya Mantri Utkarsh Yojana of the state government.

Each FPO has been sanctioned Rs 15 lakh under the scheme, aimed at promoting high-performing farmer collectives and enhancing cooperative-led rural development. During a ceremonial event, the first installment of Rs 12 lakh per FPO, amounting to a total of Rs 1.8 crore, was distributed.

Officials said the financial assistance will help strengthen collective operations, improve infrastructure, expand market linkages and enhance value addition activities. The move is expected to significantly improve farmers’ access to better prices and organized markets while encouraging aggregation and scale efficiencies.

The support is also aligned with the broader objective of boosting farmers’ income and promoting the cooperative model as a vehicle for inclusive agricultural growth. With structured financial backing and institutional guidance, the selected FPOs are expected to play a crucial role in advancing sustainable agriculture and rural prosperity across Assam.
