The Central Information Commission has rejected the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies’ claim that letters sent by a Sahara depositor were “not traceable” due to the relocation of its office, media reports say.
The Commission held that shifting of premises cannot be a valid ground for failing to trace official correspondence.
Taking a serious view of the matter, the CIC directed the CRCS to submit a detailed status report within four weeks on the action taken in response to the depositor’s representations.
The order underlined the responsibility of public authorities to maintain records and ensure accountability, particularly in cases involving large numbers of depositors.
The decision reinforces transparency obligations under the Right to Information framework and seeks timely redressal of depositor grievances.
