Krishan Pal Gurjar, Union Minister of State for Cooperation, underscored the transformative role of cooperatives in India’s inclusive and sustainable development while addressing the Cooperative Chintan Shivir organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi, on Monday. Speaking to a gathering of chartered accountants, he highlighted the expanding scope of the cooperative sector under the Ministry of Cooperation.

The Minister said that under the leadership of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the government has rolled out more than 100 major initiatives, including the New Cooperation Policy 2025. A key priority, he noted, is the establishment of new Multi-purpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (MPACS) in every village and panchayat over the next five years. PACS are also being diversified beyond credit into over 25 economic activities to ensure sustainability.

Citing initiatives like Bharat Taxi, where profits accrue directly to drivers, Gurjar said cooperatives will be crucial to achieving the Prime Minister’s vision of Viksit Bharat @2047. The event was attended by Union Minister Bhupender Yadav, former Union Minister Suresh Prabhu, ICAI President CA Charanjot Singh Nanda, and other dignitaries.
