Goa Bagayatdar Sahakari Kharedi Vikri Saunstha Maryadit, the state’s largest Primary Agricultural Cooperative Society (PACS), continues to stand as a model of cooperative strength and rural development.
Established in 1964 with just 116 members and a capital of Rs 10,500, the society now boasts over 10,000 farmer-members and operates across Goa through diversified activities spanning agro-processing, retail, input supply and credit services.
From its origins as a Central Supari Society, Bagayatdar has grown into a multi-vertical organisation. Key milestones include its 1975 merger with the Goa Coconut Producers Cooperative and the establishment of a modern agro-processing unit worth Rs 15.50 crore under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana.
Its flagship Bagayatdar Bazar retail chain, launched in 1989, now operates 32 outlets, contributing significantly to annual turnover, which rose to Rs 62,825 lakh in FY 2024–25.
Bagayatdar’s best practices-such as direct farmer-to-market linkages, real-time price updates via SMS and a mobile app, and acting as a nodal agency for government schemes-have earned it prestigious awards including the NCDC Cooperative Excellence Award and Laxmanrao Inamdar National Award.
Looking ahead, the society plans to become a fully digital “SMART Society,” expand retail operations and strengthen e-commerce, while continuing to uplift farmers and ensure fair prices for consumers.
