Calling CoopKumbh 2025 a “digital parliament of cooperatives,” Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that digital transformation will shape the future of India’s cooperative movement.
He lauded the NUCFDC’s newly launched products- Sahakar DigiPay and Sahakar Digi Loan apps- which aim to empower Urban Cooperative Banks (UCBs), especially smaller ones yet to embrace digital platforms, to remain competitive in a rapidly evolving financial ecosystem.
“The mode of payment has changed- if UCBs don’t join this digital race, they risk being left behind,” Shah cautioned.
Shah also urged the Umbrella Organization (UO) to take proactive steps to digitally connect all cooperative banks within the next two years. “The UO must not rest after its formation- it should ensure that every cooperative institution, from the smallest co-op bank to the largest urban bank, benefits from a unified digital framework,” he emphasized.
Expressing confidence in these initiatives, the Minister said they would bridge the rural–urban financial divide and strengthen India’s position as a global leader in cooperative innovation and inclusivity.
