In a major push to expand the cooperative movement to every village and panchayat, the Government of India is implementing a nationwide scheme for setting up new multipurpose Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), dairy, and fisheries cooperative societies.

The initiative, launched under the vision of “Sahakar se Samriddhi” (Prosperity through Cooperation), is being carried out in collaboration with NABARD, NDDB, NFDB, and various state governments.

Since the launch of the initiative on 15 February 2023, a total of 29,199 new cooperative societies have been registered across the country. The move aims to promote inclusive rural development, enhance livelihood opportunities, and strengthen grassroots-level financial and production networks through the cooperative framework.

These newly established cooperatives will focus on improving rural credit systems, boosting dairy and fisheries sectors, and empowering farmers, women, and small entrepreneurs through collective economic activities.
