650 Owner-Drivers set to roll out Bharat Taxi Pilot soon in Delhi
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

The pilot phase of Bharat Taxi, India’s first cooperative ride-hailing platform, is set to commence in Delhi this November, featuring 650 vehicles operated by owner-drivers.

Spearheaded by Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited, the initiative aims to test the platform’s functionality and gather user feedback before expanding to major cities including Mumbai, Pune, Bhopal, Lucknow, and Jaipur. The project targets onboarding 5,000 drivers by year-end and scaling up to 1 lakh drivers nationwide by 2030.

Distinct from conventional ride-hailing platforms, Bharat Taxi operates on a cooperative model where drivers retain 100% of their fare earnings, contributing only a nominal membership fee instead of commissions.

Supported by leading cooperative and financial institutions such as NCDC, IFFCO, AMUL, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NABARD, NDDB, and NCEL, Bharat Taxi also aligns with the Digital India initiative through integration with DigiLocker, UMANG, and API Setu, ensuring secure, transparent, and seamless service delivery.
