Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah announced that India’s first cooperative multi-feed Compressed Biogas (CBG) plant at the Maharshi Shankarrao Kolhe Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana will serve as a model for nationwide expansion.
Shah said that under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the central government will provide full support through the National Cooperative Development Corporation to 15 selected cooperative sugar mills to establish similar CBG and potash granule plants.
He emphasized that this initiative will transform sugar cooperatives into multidimensional hubs, producing clean energy, fertilisers, and ethanol while promoting sustainability and reducing imports. Shah added that these plants will pave the way for circular economy practices, making cooperatives a key driver of rural economic empowerment.
