The Ministry of Cooperation has initiated proceedings to wind up the Tamil Nadu based Viswadeepthi Multi State Agri Cooperative Society Ltd., after multiple complaints of non-payment of matured deposits and failure to comply with regulatory directives.
The Society, registered under the Multi-State Cooperative Societies (MSCS) Act, 2002 (Regn. No. MSCS/CR/1256/2016), came under scrutiny following complaints filed on March 27, 2025, by depositors including Mrs. Philomina Varghese, Mrs. Lilly Chummar, and Chellakudam Sanikutty Chummar. Despite repeated reminders, the Society did not submit any action-taken report to the Central Registrar’s office.
The Cooperative Ombudsman also confirmed receiving numerous complaints regarding non-payment, and in an order dated May 5, 2025, directed the Society to repay depositors with interest. Records show that the Society neither complied with the order nor filed an appeal.
Further, an inspection carried out by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) on August 5, 2025, revealed that the Society was not operating from its registered address in Annur, Tamil Nadu. Local inquiries confirmed that no such entity was functioning at the premises.
Taking note of these violations, the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, Rabindra Kumar, has decided to begin winding up proceedings under the MSCS Act, 2002. Members or stakeholders have been given 15 days from the date of notice publication on crcs.gov.in to file objections, failing which the winding-up process will proceed.
