In Tamil Nadu cooperative sugar mills are facing an acute shortage of sugarcanes as there is a large-scale diversion of them to private mills.
N.Palanisami president of the Tamil Nadu sugarcane farmers’ association has called upon the authorities to take necessary steps soon to prevent the smuggling of sugarcanes in the state.
The issue has become serious as brokers and vested interests are active luring farmers into selling their sugarcanes to private mills.
With each passing day, the smugglers are getting more active threatening the prospects of the cooperative sugar mills.
