Union Minister for Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Friday digitally transferred crop insurance payouts worth about Rs 3,900 crore directly into the bank accounts of nearly 35 lakh farmers under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The event was held in Jhunjhunu, Rajasthan, in the presence of Minister of State Shri Bhagirath Choudhary, Chief Minister Shri Bhajanlal Sharma, and Agriculture Minister Dr. Kirodi Lal Meena, while lakhs of farmers across states joined virtually.
Highlighting reforms in crop insurance, Chouhan said that earlier compensations were provided only when crops in an entire block or tehsil were destroyed. Under PM Modi’s leadership, the revamped scheme ensures payouts even if a single farmer suffers losses.
The Minister noted that since its launch in 2016, PMFBY has disbursed Rs 2.12 lakh crore, while the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi has transferred Rs 3.75 lakh crore directly to farmers. He also underlined the government’s continued support through fertiliser subsidies, higher MSPs, and schemes to strengthen sustainable agriculture.
