In response to a query in the Lok Sabha, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah clarified that the “Meri Samiti – Mera Patal” initiative has been independently conceptualized and launched by the Regional Institute of Cooperative Management (RICM), Chandigarh, under the aegis of the National Council for Cooperative Training (NCCT).
The key objective of this initiative is to empower and modernize Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) by addressing their training requirements, improving governance structures, and enhancing public visibility.
The initiative also enables the creation of a digital profile for each PACS, thereby establishing a centralized, transparent, and real-time data system that supports informed decision-making.
The project is currently being implemented across the jurisdiction of RICM Chandigarh, which includes the states and union territories of Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Delhi, Chandigarh, and Leh-Ladakh.
As of now, there is no proposal to expand this portal to other regions of the country. However, several tangible benefits are envisioned under this initiative. These include providing every PACS/MPCS with a unique digital identity detailing its history, services, and governance.
It will also enhance public visibility and ensure real-time transparency, ultimately promoting better accountability and efficiency in cooperative institutions.
