Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah has announced that the upcoming cooperative-based taxi service, initially known as Sahakar Taxi, has been officially named “Bharat Taxi” and will be launched in December 2025.
“Sahakar Taxi Cooperative Limited is an innovative mobility solution built on cooperative principles. The initiative aims to empower drivers by ensuring fair earnings and providing the public with affordable, reliable transportation options. Rooted in values of cooperation, transparency, and shared ownership, the service will act as a people-centric alternative to conventional ride-hailing platforms,” he added.
The project is promoted by the National Cooperative Development Corporation (NCDC) along with seven other prominent cooperative institutions: IFFCO, NAFED, Amul, KRIBHCO, NDDB, NCEL, and NABARD.
After completing all the necessary formalities, Bharat Taxi is likely to hit the roads in December 2025, offering a cooperative-driven alternative in India’s transport ecosystem and ensuring inclusive growth for its driver-members.
