At the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC-2025) Committee meeting held at Vidhan Bhavan, Mumbai, on Monday, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis unveiled the book “Gosht Reserve Bankachi”, authored by Vidhyadhar Anaskar, Administrator of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank.
The book presents a compelling narrative of the Reserve Bank of India’s evolution, functioning, and its pivotal role in shaping India’s cooperative banking landscape. Written in simple language and rich in storytelling, it aims to promote financial literacy and serve as a valuable resource for professionals in the financial and cooperative sectors.
Chapters such as “Politics of the Governor’s Post”, “The First Demonetisation”, “Partition of the Nation and the RBI”, and “The Story of Those 55 Crores” are among the highlights.
The book traces the history from the era of Warren Hastings up to the year 1982, concluding just before Dr. Manmohan Singh’s tenure as RBI Governor. It spans 51 engaging chapters and is believed to be the first Indian book to narrate the Reserve Bank’s history in local language and storytelling format.
The foreword is penned by noted economist Dr. Narendra Jadhav, and the book has been published by Rajhans Prakashan, a reputed Pune-based publishing house.
The high-level meeting, convened to strategize state-level initiatives for IYC-2025, was attended by Cooperation Minister Babasaheb Patil, Agriculture Minister Manikrao Kokate, Cooperation Commissioner Deepak Taware, Chief Secretary of Maharashtra, Vidhyadhar Anaskar, Kaka Koyate, and other senior officials.
