In observance of the International Year of Cooperatives (IYC) 2025, the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) organized a series of activities on 6th July 2025 at its campus in Delhi, including a Swachhata Abhiyan, tree plantation campaign, International Day of Cooperatives (IDC) celebration, and Foundation Day of the Ministry of Cooperation.
The event was graced by Delhi’s Cooperation Minister Ravinder Singh (Indraj) as the Chief Guest. He, along with Dr. Bijender Singh, Vice President, NCUI, planted a tree to support the Prime Minister’s campaign.
Speaking on the occasion, the Minister emphasized that cooperatives are key to addressing the country’s socio-economic challenges and asserted that Delhi Government’s welfare schemes will be extended to the grassroots through the cooperative network.
He further said that the vision of ‘Viksit Bharat’ can be realized only through the active participation of cooperatives.
In his presidential address, Dr. Bijender Singh highlighted the crucial role cooperatives can play in building a $5 trillion economy.
Dr. Sudhir Mahajan, Chief Executive of NCUI, in his opening remarks, emphasized the efforts of NCUI and the Ministry of Cooperation in strengthening the cooperative movement across India.
As part of the campaign, a Swachhata Abhiyan was conducted under the leadership of Dr. Bijender Singh, with NCUI officials actively participating to clean and beautify the campus.
To mark IDC 2025, NCUI also hosted a webinar on the theme “Cooperatives: Driving Inclusive and Sustainable Solutions for a Better World.” The session featured renowned speakers including Dr. C. Pitchai, Professor at The Gandhigram Rural Institute, Tamil Nadu; Mr. Emanuele Cusa, Associate Professor of Commercial Law, University of Milano-Bicocca, Italy; and Dr. Mallika Kumar, Associate Professor, SRCC, Delhi University.
Ved Prakash Setia, Executive Director, NCUI, moderated the session, which witnessed the participation of over 200 attendees in hybrid mode.
