While addressing a event in Mumbai on Friday organized to mark the International Year of Cooperatives 2025, Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah announced that the Bhumi Pujan ceremony of the upcoming Tribhuvan Sahkari University in Anand, Gujarat will be held in August 2025.
There is a possibility of the event taking place at the end of July or the beginning of August. The ceremony will include a foundation stone laying and an address by the Union Home and Cooperation Minister, marking a historic moment in India’s cooperative education landscape.
In a landmark step, the Ministry of Cooperation has already constituted the first Governing Board of Tribhuvan Sahkari University. The board features a well-balanced mix of ex-officio members and nominated representatives, including senior officials from central ministries, state governments, and leading cooperative institutions across the country.
The university is envisioned as India’s first institution solely dedicated to cooperative education, research, and training, aiming to build future leaders in the sector and further strengthen cooperative values at grassroots levels.
This initiative is seen as a major stride towards institutionalizing cooperative knowledge and capacity-building, in alignment with the government’s broader mission of revitalizing India’s cooperative movement.
