Jordan’s Senate has passed major reforms to Cooperative Law, aligning it with global standards and revitalizing the cooperative sector.
The revised 2025 Cooperatives Law emphasizes governance, fair work conditions, and inclusivity. It adopts international cooperative principles and introduces equal representation in the Jordan Cooperative Corporation’s board, half from government, half from cooperatives, including at least three women.
New institutions, a Cooperative Development Fund and Institute, will support financing, training, and research. The law promotes youth, women, and persons with disabilities’ participation and encourages foreign cooperative branches.
Backed by the ILO and the PROSPECTS programme, the reforms mark a turning point in Jordan’s cooperative movement, aiming for a more inclusive and productive economy. The law is a key outcome of the National Cooperative Strategy 2021–2025.
