Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah will grace the Golden Jubilee celebrations of the IFFCO Kalol Unit in Gujarat on Sunday, marking a monumental milestone in the journey of one of India’s most iconic fertilizer plants.
The prestigious event will also witness the presence of Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, who will attend as the Guest of Honour. Joining them will be IFFCO Chairman Dileep Sanghani, Managing Director Dr. U.S. Awasthi, and the entire Board of Directors, underlining the importance of this historic occasion.
As preparations near completion, the IFFCO team, led by Managing Director Dr. U.S. Awasthi, is actively overseeing the arrangements to ensure a grand and seamless celebration.
The event not only reflects five decades of excellence but also reaffirms IFFCO Kalol’s dedication to innovation, sustainability, and its critical role in empowering Indian farmers through the cooperative movement.

Commissioned in 1974-75, the IFFCO Kalol Unit is an ISO 9001 & 14001 certified cooperative fertilizer plant. Originally built to produce 910 MTPD of Ammonia and 1200 MTPD of Urea, the unit was significantly upgraded in 1997 to 1100 MTPD and 1650 MTPD respectively, with an investment of Rs 150 crore.
In response to the evolving energy landscape, IFFCO Kalol installed a naphtha pre-reformer to allow mixed-feed flexibility, before transitioning fully to Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) by 2009, following a directive from the Government of India.
IFFCO Kalol has consistently set benchmarks in energy conservation, making “Energy Saving” a core mission. With several Energy Saving Projects (ESP) successfully implemented, the unit has managed to enhance the performance of its vintage plants, even after 40 years of continuous operation.
Given that Ammonia production consumes up to 90% of total energy in the Ammonia-Urea complex, IFFCO Kalol’s sustained efforts in energy optimization have made it one of the lowest energy-consuming fertilizer units in the country.
As IFFCO Kalol celebrates 50 years of service, its journey stands as a shining example of how technological advancement, environmental responsibility, and cooperative spirit can together create a legacy of national significance.
