The Odisha Registrar of Cooperative Societies (RCS) has directed the Auditor General of Cooperative Societies (AGCS) to conduct a special audit into alleged financial irregularities at Smruti Multipurpose Cooperative Society, Naharkanta, from 2019 to 2024.
The probe, initiated after a depositor’s complaint, found severe financial mismanagement. Depositors Anjali Sahoo and her husband faced harassment while trying to withdraw Rs 43 lakh.
With Rs 21.59 crore in deposits and Rs 21.32 crore in loans, the society’s weak financial condition necessitates an audit to assess its actual financial position.
