According to official sources, Punjab state cooperative sugar mills would have to pay most of outstanding dues to cane growers from their own coffers.
The Punjab govt. would pay only an amount of Rs. 95.60 crore, sources said.
It is worth mentioning that the total amount to be paid to the cane growers stands at Rs. 369.07 crore.
State Cooperative Sugar Mills in Punjab crushed 149.52 lakh quintals of cane and produced 12.93 lakh quintals of sugar in 2012-13.
