The Government of India has implemented Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies to tackle key challenges in the agriculture sector and support farmers. The information was shared by Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Ramnath Thakur, in a written reply in Lok Sabha.
One of the key initiatives is ‘Kisan e-Mitra’, an AI-powered chatbot designed to assist farmers with queries related to the PM Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. Supporting multiple languages, the chatbot is being expanded to cover other government programs.
Additionally, the National Pest Surveillance System uses AI and Machine Learning to detect pest infestations, helping mitigate crop losses due to climate change. AI-based crop health monitoring integrates satellite imagery, weather data, and soil moisture levels for rice and wheat cultivation.
