Durgesh S. Chandavarkar, Chairman of SVC Co-operative Bank Ltd. (formerly The Shamrao Vithal Co-operative Bank Ltd.), with a rich 118-year legacy has been honoured with the prestigious Leadership Award for Visionary Leader in the Corporate Sector at the Connect Future Ready Leaders in India’s Viksit Bharat Vision 2024-25 event.
The award, received on Chandavarkar’s behalf by R. Janakiraman, Chief General Manager – Treasury, was presented by Smt. Shyamala Gopinath, former Deputy Governor of RBI, and Smt. Girija Subramanian, CMD of New India Assurance, during a ceremony held on January 23-24, 2025, at Hotel Kohinoor, Mumbai.
Expressing his gratitude, Chandavarkar stated, “This recognition reflects the collective efforts of our team at SVC Bank and our commitment to driving innovation and excellence in the banking industry. Our focus remains on creating sustainable value for stakeholders and contributing to India’s growth story.”
A distinguished industrialist, banker, philanthropist, and visionary leader, Chandavarkar has over 40 years of experience across industries. Serving as SVC Bank’s Chairman from 2019 to 2023, he was re-elected unanimously for a new term from 2023 to 2029.
Under his leadership, SVC Bank has earned numerous accolades, including recognition from Amit Shah, Hon’ble Union Minister of Home Affairs and Cooperation, for over 100 years of service in the co-operative banking sector. In 2024, the Bank was again honored for its contribution to the paid-up capital of the National Urban Co-operative Finance and Development Corporation Limited (NUCFDC), symbolizing solidarity with the UCB sector.
Additionally, Chandavarkar received the Best Chairperson of the Year award from Bharat Ratna Sahakarita Samman in May 2024. Known for his sharp intellect, dynamic leadership, and people-centric approach, he has been pivotal in SVC Bank’s continued growth and CSR initiatives.
Founded in 1906, SVC Bank operates across 11 states with Rs 35,159 crore in total business, 198 branches, 214 ATMs, and over 2,400 employees. The Bank continues to excel under Chandavarkar’s visionary leadership.
