The National Centre for Cooperative Education (NCCE) recently hosted a five-day training program on “Formation of Cooperative Societies,” which began on January 6, 2025.

Designed to benefit students, fresh graduates, and newcomers to the cooperative sector, the event attracted 64 participants from across India, including Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Sikkim, Odisha, Haryana, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, and Delhi NCR.

The program aimed to provide participants with a foundational understanding of the cooperative model while highlighting its role in fostering meaningful employment opportunities.

Savitri Singh, Deputy Chief Executive of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI), inaugurated the program. She welcomed the attendees and emphasized the significant role of youth in propelling the cooperative movement forward.

Singh underlined the potential of cooperatives as a vital platform for income generation and self-reliance, urging young participants to explore the sector’s opportunities.

The inaugural session also featured Rajeev Sharma, Executive Director of NCUI, who delivered an informative overview of the cooperative sector. Sharma outlined the various initiatives undertaken by NCUI to strengthen and promote cooperatives across the nation. His address provided valuable insights into the sector’s current dynamics and future prospects.

To ensure a well-rounded learning experience, the training program incorporated a variety of engaging methodologies. These included interactive lectures, group discussions, and case studies, enabling participants to grasp the nuances of forming and managing cooperative societies.

As part of the five-day youth training programme on the formation of cooperative societies, a study visit to NAFED was organized.  Jethabhai Ahir, Chairman, NAFED, addressed the participants and engaged in a fruitful discussion, sharing valuable insights about the role of cooperatives in strengthening the agricultural sector.

For the participants, the visit provided an excellent opportunity for hands-on learning and interaction. Senior officials from NAFED delivered a detailed presentation on the organization’s activities, highlighting its initiatives and contributions to the cooperative movement. The session concluded with an interactive Q&A segment, where participants actively engaged with the officials.

The program served as a platform to highlight the importance of youth inclusion in driving the cooperative movement, aligning with the broader vision of #SahakarSeSamridhi (Prosperity through Cooperation).

This initiative, supported by the Ministry of Cooperation underscores the critical role of training and education in building a robust cooperative ecosystem. As the participants return to their respective states, they are expected to implement their learnings, thereby contributing to the expansion and modernization of the cooperative sector across the country.
