Ghanshyambhai H. Amin, a prominent leader in the co-operative sector, has been re-elected unopposed and unanimously as the Chairman of the Gujarat State Co-operative Union (GSCU) for the 12th consecutive term.

The election, held on 1st January 2025 under the supervision of the Returning Officer and Deputy Collector of Ahmedabad, marks a historic achievement and sets a unique record in India’s co-operative sector.

Unprecedented Support from the Co-Operative Sector was seen in the case of Amin’s election. GSCU, the apex co-operative institution in Gujarat, represents various sectors such as dairy, banking, sugar, credit, and women’s cooperatives through 28 elected seats. This term, all board members were elected unopposed, reflecting the unity and trust within the co-operative community.

In the election for office bearers, Ghanshyambhai Amin was re-elected as Chairman, Ravindrasinh Arunsinh Rana as Vice-Chairman, and Bhikhabhai Zaverbhai Patel and Arvindbhai D. Tagadiya as Honorary Secretaries. Bhikhabhai Patel, a renowned leader, also serves as Director at KRIBHCO, while Arvindbhai Tagadiya, a former Vice-Chairman of Rajkot District Co-operative Bank, has made notable contributions to the sector.

Amin has served as Chairman of GSCU without interruption since 1993, making his tenure a historic milestone. His leadership extends beyond Gujarat, having served as President of the National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI) for two terms, Vice President of NCUI for two terms, Vice President of the International Co-operative Alliance (Asia-Pacific), and Chairman of the Co-operative Bank of India (COBI).

By profession, Amin is a Senior Advocate at the Gujarat High Court and has also served as Chairman of the Gujarat Bar Council. He currently leads the Gujarat State Co-operative Credit Societies Federation.

On his re-election, Amin expressed gratitude and reaffirmed his dedication: “I am exhilarated and deeply thankful to my Board of Directors and representatives of various co-operative institutions for reposing their trust in me”.

He further said “Being re-elected for the 12th consecutive term is both an honor and a responsibility. I remain committed to promoting co-operative activities, particularly in education and training, to fulfill our mission of ‘Prosperity through Co-operation,’ as envisioned by our Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi.”

The news of Amin’s re-election garnered widespread acclaim on social media. Leaders including Dilip Sanghani (President of NCUI), Dollarbhai Kotecha (Chairman of NAFCARD), and Narharibhai Amin (Rajya Sabha MP) extended their congratulations. Amin’s historic achievement continues to inspire and strengthen co-operative movements across India.
