In a rare move, the Supreme Court on Monday mandated the deployment of central forces for the December 15 election of the Contai Co-Operative Bank in West Bengal, media reports say.
The decision follows violent clashes during the Tamluk Co-Operative Bank polls, where a TMC worker was allegedly murdered.
The apex court also directed the state and the West Bengal Co-operative Election Commission to ensure transportation to new polling stations, relocated due to exams.
Each booth will be equipped with CCTV cameras for monitoring. Violence in Tamluk polls saw TMC winning 56 of 69 seats, while BJP secured 13 in Nandigram.
