In a significant address during the alumni meet of the Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi, Union Minister of Agriculture, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, emphasized the need for agricultural advancements to benefit India’s predominantly small and marginal farmers.

The event, held on June 22, 2024, saw Shri Chouhan advocate for a scientific approach to farming that could transform India into a global agricultural powerhouse, capable of feeding the world and expanding exports.

He highlighted the critical role of technology in enhancing farm incomes and stressed the importance of making India self-reliant in pulses and oilseeds.

The meeting also featured insights from notable experts including Dr. R.S. Paroda, former Director General of ICAR, and Dr. Ramesh Chand of NITI Aayog, who discussed the necessity of aligning agricultural policies with the challenges faced by small farmers.

The assembly resolved to increase investments in agricultural research and innovation, aiming to elevate Indian agriculture to new levels of productivity and self-sufficiency.
