The Bilga police have booked Manpreet Singh, a former secretary of Khokhe Wal Cooperative Agricultural Services Limited Society, for allegedly embezzling Rs 12.29 crore from shareholders, reports the Tribune.
Anju Bala, Assistant Registrar Cooperative Societies, reported the fraud to the SSP. Phillaur DSP Sarwann Jit Singh investigated, confirming the allegations and recommending charges.
The SSP directed the Bilga SHO to file a case under IPC Sections 406 and 409. Singh, a resident of Khokhe Wal village, is currently absconding.
