BISCOMAUN elects 232 delegates; BoD elections slated for June

The top cooperative institution of the state, Biscomaun (Bihar-Jharkhand), successfully conducted the second phase of elections for its delegates on Monday. It is seen as  Biscomaun’s major achievement as most of the candidates won uncontested, underling the cooperative spirit of the co-op organization.

About 232 delegates from the two states have been elected. Following the amended MSCS Act, Patna collector was appointed as the Returning Officer.

It is remarkable that 99% of representatives from Bihar and Jharkhand were elected unopposed, says Biscomaun leader Sunil Singh, who also claims that about 98% of them are his loyalists.

These elected representatives will participate in the elections of BoD of Biscomaun on June 10. Sunil himself cannot run for the Chairman as he has already completed more than two terms. He, however, is keeping mum on the issue of who would be the next Chairman.

“Like IFFCO, ours is a democratic co-operative body and only the collectivists of Directors know who would be the next Chairman”, said Sunil who is known for his firm  grip  on Biscomaun the  cooperative behemoth of  Bihar.

In a social media post Sunil claimed “ The state government’s leaders cannot prevent me from becoming the chairman of Biscomaun, if  I  do not relinquish the position of my own accord.”  he  said.

Talking to the Indian Cooperative, Suni said I have served as the chairman of the top cooperative institution of the state for nearly 20 years, despite unfavourable rules both at the Centre and the state. “It stands  out as a record in the cooperative sector of the country”, he added.

Preoccupied with  Lok Sabha elections, especially tasked with taking care of Lalu’s daughter Rohini Acharya’s campaign, Sunil had little time to focus on the Biscomaun elections, as of now. Yet, most of his men have won uncontested.

Explaining the cooperative character of Biscomaun, Sunil said that most of the members are from NDA and yet they support me. He cited the example of Jeetendra Kumar, a JDU MLA, who has won again. There are two more MLAs who have won.

The BISCOMAUN Board consists of 21 members. Chairman of 12 DCCBs out of 22 in the state happen to be on its Board. These elected representatives will participate in the directorate elections of Biscomaun on June 10. The election of Chairman and Vice Chairman will take place later.
