Come any crisis of onion or tomatoes or pulse in the country, co-op bodies like NCCF and Nafed are seen batting from the front. Procuring these stuffs from surplus areas and transporting them and selling them through retails at subsidized rates to the needy in scarcity hit areas, have earned them many admirers.
One of them is Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ashwini Kumar Chaubey, who recently flagged of some vans of NCCF.
In a bid to provide onion and pulses at affordable rates, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ashwini Kumar Chaubey flagged off 75 mobile vans of National Cooperative Consumers Federation (NCCF) on Wednesday.
The flagging off ceremony took place at the NCCF’s Delhi office at August Kranti Marg and these mobile vans will provide onion and pulses to the citizens of Delhi-NCR.
On this occasion, Secretary Rohit Kumar Singh, NCCF Chairman Vishal Singh, Managing Director Anice Joseph Chandra (IRS), Paresh Patel, Ajay Rai and others were present.
On the sidelines of the event, Chaubey said, “Consumers and farmers will benefit from this. Under this initiative, India will get pulses (gram) at Rs 60 and onions at Rs 25 per kg. The number of vans will be increased to 500 in the coming days. Pulses and onions will also be sold at affordable rates through NAFED”.
During the flagging off event, Chaubey also visited the Millet stall set up by the NCCF at its office premises. “If we include millets in our diet, we not only take care of our health but also help in making agriculture safe and sustainable”, said Chaubey.
The two leading cooperatives of the country NCCF and Nafed are active in stabilizing the prices of onion and dal. NCCF is also planning to sell onions and chana dal at discounted rates through ONDC and flipkart in the coming days.
Earlier, NCCF played a vital role in checking the prices of tomatoes and hogging the media headlines in a big way.
