Pune headquartered The Cosmos Cooperative Bank launched ‘Post Graduate Diploma in Banking Product Marketing’ designed for the staff of The Cosmos Co-operative Bank Ltd at its head office in Pune, in which Dr. Bhagwat Karad, Minister of State – Ministry of Finance was the Chief Guest.

Applauding Cosmos Bank for its efforts, the Minister said the Bank has brought forward a very important subject which will not only benefit their staff but also the cooperative sector and assist in making the Indian economy the third largest in the world in the future.

In his address, Dr. Karad further said that to make India a developed nation, industry, business and cooperative sectors have to play an important role and thus it is imperative that these sectors are developed too. The Central Government has undertaken various initiatives for the same, he stated.

He said that financial literacy and inclusion are very important for the progress of rural areas, and the cooperative sector can play a very significant role in achieving this, stated Dr. Karad underlining the fact that the Central Government has established a separate Ministry of Cooperation for achieving this goal.

In the future, the course started by Cosmos Bank can be made available for all banks and the support & financial aid required for that will be provided by the Government, assured Dr. Karad.

Explaining the reason for launching the course for staff, Chairman CA Milind Kale said, “In the dynamic banking sector it is imperative that banking services, facilities, deposit and loans schemes, digital banking products etc., should reach and be sold to the customers.

Kale stressed that it is necessary to upgrade the skills for Sales and Marketing in the staff. Focused training & education of the subject will increase the proficiency and skill of the staff which will benefit the Bank. The aim to start this course is to bridge the gap between knowledge of commerce students and their roles, responsibilities & expectations while actually working in Bank”, he stated.

Post Graduate Diploma in ‘Banking Product Marketing’ is a one-year course started in association with Brihan Maharashtra College of Commerce-Autonomous (BMCC-Autonomous). This is the first time that a renowned Educational Institute and Bank have started such an initiative jointly.

After successful completion of the Diploma Course the candidates will receive a certificate from Savitribai Phule Pune University. Bank’s Chairman CA Milind Kale emphasized that Cosmos Bank is the first and only bank to start such an initiative for its staff. All the cost of this Course will be borne by the Bank, he assured.
