NCCF: Nomination ends today

Today is the last day of filing of nominations at NCCF. According to VP Singh the election officer, election for the post of only 5 directors will take place. President of NCUI and Chairmen of giant cooperatives numbering five are members of NCCF Board by default. There are also about 7-8 directors, some coopted and some nominated by the government. NCCF Board has thus finally about 17 members.

The picture of contesting candidates will be clear only by the evening when the nomination process will come to an end. Originally there were about 72 voters ,out of which about 7 voters have been rejected. Now 65 voters will decide the fate of directors if the election takes place.

Many a times the entire process is wrapped up quickly without election as voters are negotiated for each candidates. Calling it “consensus” the cooperatives bigwigs distribute and share important positions among themselves.

NCCF elections also seem to follow the same pattern as every body is talking of incumbent Chairman Virendra Singh making it once again. Vishal Singh’s name was doing rounds but he vehemently denies his candidature for the post of chairmanship.

Talking to Indiancooperative.com ,Vishal told that he is a candidate for director ship but on the issue of Chairman ship he kept mum. Age perhaps is also coming on his way as he is said to be only 22 years old, a non-eligible age for the position of Chairmanship.

But it does not mean that Virendra Singh will have smooth going. He must be ready for some one trying to upturn his cart at the last moment. Things will be clearer by tomorrow. Watch these lines to find out more.

It should be known to readers that NCCF Board was superceded in 86-87 and an administrator was appointed. The supersession was lifted only in June 1990 after govt  infused 11 crores and ensured its survival through  government supplies. Charges and counter charges of corruptions have been leveled against NCCF working in no small measure. It is said that though NCCF owes its existence to common consumer, it has only protected the interest of traders, manufacturers and middlemen.

Those holding office of Managing Committee by default are ruining the society and messing up its affairs. In one case, an interim MC was selected to hold office for the particular co-op year. The interim commitee surreptiously altered its term while approving the minutes of general meeting, before adoption. Yet, by the end of the next year all of them resigned, as clearly stated in the Report of the MC. As no one came forward to take up the responsibility, the same MC was requested to continue for another six months. By the time the governmet mess up came and the very same cronies are in office. They feel they are unassailable. That committee has gone ahead initiating redevelpment work. One does not know how the Registrar is going to give compliance certificate to that society. The society has less than 100 members and one leading lawyer was of the opinion that the society can can go ahead with elections on its own.
