The apex body of state cooperative banks- Nafscob organized a National Seminar on Vision for Amrit Kal (2023-2047) on Friday at a hotel in Chennai, in which, among several top-notch co-operators, Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister Thiru KR. Periakaruppan was the chief guest.

NCUI and IFFCO Chairman Dileepbhai Sanghani, Biscomaun Chairman Sunil Kumar Singh, Odisha State Co-operative Bank Chairman T Prasad Rao, Bihar State Co-op Bank Ramesh Chaubey, TSCAB MD N Muralidhar and others were present on the occasion. More than 150 representatives from State cooperative banks, DCCBs and PACCs attended the seminar.

Addressing the seminar, Tamil Nadu Cooperation Minister counted the achievements of his state cooperative department. In the FY year 2022-23, Tamil Nadu State Chief Cooperative Bank and 23 district Central Cooperative Banks have earned a handsome profit, he stated.

Minister said that co-op banks have implemented various welfare schemes for the economic development of farmers, weavers, fishermen, differently-abled persons, rural artisans, and women. The Tamil Nadu government is working to strengthen cooperative societies,” he said.

“Besides, the branches of STCB and DCCBs have been brought under CBS and the cooperation department has decided to transform 4,478 agriculture cooperative credit societies into multi-service centres”, the minister added.

Sharing the details with the Indian Cooperative soon after the event, Nafscob Chairman K Ravinder Rao said, “The event was highly successful and several discussions on strengthening the three-tier structure were held.

Issues related to StCBs, DCCBs and PACCs were also part of discussion and it was decided to be addressed before the government”, said Rao who is spearheading the co-op bank movement in the country.

“The cooperative banks have been functioning on par with commercial banks by providing all services to the customers including UPI services, subsidy loans to the farmers and other entrepreneurs”, Rao underlined.

Rao, who belongs to Telangana and is said to be close to the ruling party of the state, said Telangana state has emerged as a role model for other states especially in the computerization of PACS in the country.

Rao also lauded the union govt and said the creation of the first-of-its-kind Ministry of Cooperation by the Union government is benefitting the cooperative societies in a big way.

NCUI President Dileep Sanghani who reached Chennai soon after the event of the reception of Union Minister Amit Shah during DAP Launch IFFCO headquarters in Delhi was over, said that co-op banks are working in tandem with the government’s goal of helping the farmers.  Sanghani also has vast experience of working with co-op banks as he has been Chairman of Amreli DCCB which floated Kisan Credit Card for the first time in the country.
