Exacerbating the divide among DCCBs, a group of co-operators connected to Maharashtra based DCCBs held a meeting focused on creating a national level federation for itself at the headquarters of Pune DCCB on Sunday.

Aimed at finalizing the road map for the formation of National Federation for DCCBs, the meeting discussed several critical issues such as preparation of bylaws, location of its headquarters, name of chief promoter, memberships, application for registration and other issues.

The meeting also okayed the name of Satara DCCB Director Shrimant Ramraje Naik as the Chief promoter of the upcoming federation and that of Satish Marathe as its Advisor.

Soon after the meeting, talking to the Indian Cooperative, one of the participants said, “Several discussions were held with the participants about the formation of an exclusive federation for DCCBs at the national level. Satara DCCB Director Shrimant Ramraje Naik has been made the Chief promoter of the federation and Satish Marathe will be its advisor”.

“Besides, the preparation of bye-laws for the new federation will be done sooner than later. It is expected that applying for registration under the MSCS Act will be done in April. The federation’s head office will be set up in Mumbai and the bank account for the same will be opened with Satara DCCB”, the participant added.

Founder member of Sahakar Bharati Satish Marathe, its National General Secretary Uday Joshi, Satara DCCB Director Shrimant Ramraje Naik, Pune DCCB Chairman Digambar Durgade, Raigad DCCB Chairman Jayant Patil, Sindhudurg DCCB Chairman M P Dalvi and others attended the meeting, which lasted for more than two hours. Around 18 participants from different DCCBs registered their participation.

It was decided in the meeting to organize a conference of DCCBs from across the country at the Alibaug, Raigad in May. The invitation for its inauguration will be sent to Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah.

The discussion about having a representative of DCCB from at least one state on the board of national level federation was also held.

Delegates were heard saying that Nafscob and Nafcub are the national level organisations working for state cooperative banks & urban cooperative banks respectively but DCCBs don’t have any such organisations to get their issues resolved. The formation of the National level federation of DCCBs (NAFCDOB) is the need of the hour to highlight our issues, many participants asserted.

It is known that the existing NAFSCOB leadership is opposed to this idea. Earlier, giving his reaction on the formation of a new federation, Nafscob Chairman Ravinder Rao said that the idea of a new federation for DCCBs is totally unacceptable because Nafscob is already working to strengthen the rural cooperative banking structure.

And, in his reaction, Nafscob MD Bhima Subramanyam said, “The formation of a new federation will be a failure. He further said that the proposed body will weaken the rural cooperative bank movement which is being successfully represented by NAFSCOB. “There should be just one federation for Short Term Credit Structure”, he stated.
