The leaders of Karnataka Chapter of Sahakar Bharati made a clean sweep of the elections to Karnataka State Souharda Federal Cooperative, held on Sunday at Bangalore.
The board consists of 21 directors in which 20 seats have been won by the Sahakar Bharati leaders and one seat has gone to an independent candidate. There were 2812 eligible voters and the polling recorded was 90.97 percent.
In the newly elected team out of 21, eleven directors are the newcomers and the rest are from the outgoing board. Those directors who are new in the board of the apex body include Prabhudev M.R, Raghurama Reddy, C.P Vijay, Bharathi G. Bhat, Mohandas J. Nayak, Shivalingappa, Mallikarjuna Ajjappa Horakera, Ramanagouda Ba Patil, Shailaja V Tapali, G, Shridhar and H.J Hanumanthaiah
Soon after the declaration of the names of Sahakar Bharati leaders, the newly elected team was crowned with garlands. The elections of Chairman and Vice-Chairman will be held soon. The term will be five years.
Karnataka Slum Development Board Commissioner B Venkatesh (KAS) was appointed as the returning officer to oversee the election process. Eight polling booths were set up in Bangalore.
The board consists of 21 seats and there are no reserved seats. The board has been divided into four regions which include Bangalore (6 seats), Mysore (2 seats), Belgaum (7 seats) and Kalaburgi (6 seats).
According to the data released by the apex body, the deposits and loan base of these souharda societies were Rs 18,004 crore and Rs 14,343 crore till 31st March 2019 respectively. But by 31st March 2022, it has risen to Rs 27,352 crore (Deposits) and Rs 20,596 crore (Loans).
Besides, the profits of these societies have increased to Rs 264 crore (31st March 2019) to Rs 365 crore (31st March 2022). The reserves rose from Rs 1886 crore to Rs 2,270 crore. As of 31st March 2019, there were 1240 but now there are 1505 e-stamping centers, the official statement says.
Souharda is a novel concept being experimented in Karnataka, wherein co-ops are governed by a separate Souharda Act. It has been a successful experiment so far.
