Addressing the AGM of the apex body of co-ops in the country, NCUI, for the first time as its President, Dileep Sanghani exhorted the youths of the country to see co-operative as a futuristic model of growth and prosperity.

“NCUI operates through forming several committees such as the women committee and others. I propose the idea of having a Youth Committee as well. If the General Body approves, the structure of the Committee could be worked out”, said Sanghani speaking during the AGM which was held on Friday at NCUI headquarters in Delhi.

The General Body approved the Presidential proposal in unison. Sanghani said the proposed committee will have youths from various sectors and from across states. “We will work it out soon”, he added.

Touching upon other issues Sanghani said that agriculture and cooperatives are closely related and as such, it is difficult to segregate one from the other. “NCUI would like to have something like Co-op Vikas Kendra on the lines of Krishi Vikas Kendra. Such centers will act as a nodal point in a given area for boosting of the co-op movement in the region”, underlined the President.

Sanghani also used the opportunity to thank Nafscub President Jyotindra Mehta for his suggestion that NCUI should make efforts to quantify co-op contributions to the national GDP. “We have enlisted the services of a reputed agency for the same ”, Sanghani informed the audience. Indian Cooperative had published the news earlier which can be accessed by clicking the link NCUI ropes in E&Y to study co-op contributions to GDP (https://www.indiancooperative.com/ncui/ncui-ropes-in-ey-to-study-co-op-contributions-to-gdp/)

Earlier, Sanghani ensured that both Nafcub President and Nafscob President sitting in the audience are accorded a place on the dais.

NCUI Chief Executive Sudhir Mahajan placed the Agenda before the AGM which was passed with voice vote. Mahajan also narrated how co-ops played a stellar role during various waves of the scourge of Covid-19.

Former President of NCUI and currently Chairman of Kribhco, Chandra Pal Singh Yadav also spoke on the occasion stressing that the very theme of the mega co-op conference “Sahakar se Samriddhi” to be addressed by the union minister Amit Shah, is an endorsement of our stand that co-ops alone can bring prosperity.

“We always felt in the past that the contribution of the co-op sector is not being acknowledged by the govt of the day. Formation of the new ministry, the anointment of Amit Shah and now this theme, point to the fact that govt has also realized that the last man can be reached and empowered only through the co-op movement”, said Chandra Pal.

Chandra Pal also stressed the need to have a code of conduct for co-operatives and laid emphasis on transparency and honesty. He also felt the need to train BoDs at the level of PACS so that they can question a Chairman if his or her conduct is not within the co-op law and spirit.

Some of those who spoke on the occasion also included Dhananjay Singh, Jyotindra Mehta, and some others. Mehta stressed the need to have a national co-op policy and exhorted the NCUI to take lead in the matter.

G H Amin proposed a vote of thanks. Amin thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the new ministry and his choice of Amit Shah as its first minister. “Amitbhai Shah will surely take co-op movements to new heights”, said Amin. Ved Prakash Setia anchored the event efficiently.
