The Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies had extended the time period for holding the election of Multi State Cooperative Banks and Co-op Societies, according to the delayed news coming to Indian Cooperative desk.
The time period for conducting the election is extended till 15.09.2021. The letter was released on 25th June 2021 which was signed by Alok Agarwal, Director (Cooperation).
The letter reads, “This office has received various references/ requests by Multi-state cooperative banks and societies (hereinafter referred to as ‘societies’ for the sake of brevity) for not being able to conduct elections on time. The issue arises on account of recent notification by various State Governments imposing restrictions on movements and public gatherings due to COVID-19”.
“With this, the societies are not able to conduct elections in the conventional way and therefore, the societies have sought guidance of this authority for giving them the extension on time period for conducting elections. Earlier, this office had issued circular dated 14.09.2020 (copy enclosed) permitting all the societies and banks to conduct elections by 31.12.2020 and subsequently, vide circular dated 15.01.2021, the time period was further extended till 15.02.2021”, according to the circular.
It further reads that, due to imposition of restrictions on movement by the State Governments on account of COVID-19, many of the societies have still not been able to conduct elections in conventional ways within the said time period. In view of the above, it has been decided that in continuation to our circular dated 15.01.2021, the time period for conducting the election by the societies is extended till 15.09.2021″.
However, societies are advised in their own interest to conduct the election at the earliest depending upon the circumstances in their region. This is issued with the approval of the Central Registrar of Cooperative Societies, the letter concludes.
There are many multi state cooperative societies in which elections have not been held due to Coronavirus.
