NCUI focusses on Co-op Development for Northeast States

National Cooperative Union of India organized an impressive webinar on Cooperative Development for Northeast States in which several important leaders and officials of the areas participated.

Organized on October 28, 2020, the objective of the webinar was to review the role of Cooperative Sectors and Innovative Schemes for the farmers, Problems, Challenges and achievements of the Cooperative Movement and Status of Cooperative Education and Training in the North East States as well as future action policies/programs to give further boost to cooperative development in the North East States were discussed.

The Webinar was attended by Chairmen and Managing Directors of National/State/District level Cooperative organisations, Governing Council Members of NCUI, Chairmen PCC, NCUI Cooperative Education Field Projects, Registrars and other officials of Cooperative Societies, representatives from various regional cooperative institutions and eminent co-operators etc of North East States.

Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav, President, NCUI inaugurated the webinar and addressed the delegates of the webinar. Chandra Pal said that the GOI is already ready to support Northeast States. It is essential to take this opportunity through cooperatives. We may encourage more and more youth and women participation in cooperatives.

N Satya Narayana, Chief Executive, NCUI welcomed all the delegates and urged Central and State Govts to enhance their budgetary provisions for cooperatives in the northeast region so that they develop skill and knowledge through Cooperative Education and Training.

The event also had a few technical sessions on subjects like Problems, Challenges and Achievements of Cooperative Movement in the State of Manipur. The main speakers included Ms Valentina Arambam, IAS, RCS, Manipur and N. S. Wahlang, DRCS, Meghalaya

Subjects like Role of the Cooperative Credit Sector and Innovative Schemes for the farmers in the state of Mizoram, Assam, Meghalaya and Arunachal Pradesh were also taken up. Those who spoke included S S Saha, CGM, NABARD, Assam RO, S N Mallick, General Manager, NABARD Mizoram RO, S S Vaseeharan, DGM, NABARD, Arunachal Pradesh, RO and Osmand E J Nongbri, Managing Director, Meghalaya Cooperative Apex Bank Ltd.

Status of Cooperative Education and Training in the State of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland and Manipur was another interesting topic on which Dr KH Somorendro Singh, Director, ICM Guwahati and Khoichung Rangamlian Aimol, Faculty Member, ICM, Imphal, Manipur spoke.

The Webinar was attended by around 100 participants and after detailed fruitful deliberations, it proved a grand success. The webinar was moderated by Rajeev Sharma, Director-GCP. and a vote of thanks was presented by Dr K.N. Sinha, Executive Director-GCP.
