With the Sole Arbitrator finally delivering the judgment in the NCUI reorganization of constituencies case, the road block on the path of NCUI election stands cleared. A meeting between the incumbent Chairman Chandra Pal Singh Yadav and MoS Parshottam Rupala, sources add, has already taken place on the issue.
The Sole Arbitrator Mrs Vritti Anand disposed of the case last Friday when the plaintiff withdrew his complaint and the Respondent (NCUI in this case) agreed to it, provided it affected none of its rights.
Arbitrator has reportedly sent the verdict to the Central Register who has to take a call in the matter. This means the Central Registrar is likely to inform the NCUI in a day or two to go ahead with the preparation of elections.
Besides the technical issues of preparing the voter list and other things, the challenge of having a consensus candidate to head the apex nation co-op body is beckoning not only to the co-operators but also to the Ministry.
The ministry is said to evince keen interest in the matter as a meeting between junior Minister Parshottam Rupala and the outgoing Chairman is believed to have taken place on the issue.
The BJP govt at the Centre is keen to have a candidate of its choice- a first for NCUI which has been headed either by Congressmen or by co-operators connected to other political parties. Even the current Chairman Chandra Pal Singh Yadav is from the Samajwadi Party and is a Rajya Sabha member.
This would be the first time, hopefully that a BJP man will have the levers of power at the highest cooperative body in the country, said a BJP co-operator with a twinkle in eyes. It would indeed be a paradigm shift, he added.
Many other co-operators Indian Cooperative talked to did not agree and said that co-operators’ creed and political affiliations vanish at its courtyard. “There are scores of examples in the country where you can see a BJP Chairman coordinating with a Congress Vice-Chairman to run a co-operative successfully, ” he added.
Coming to the issue of Arbitrator fees, which had held back the judgement earlier has also been solved, according to sources. In her judgement the Arbitrator said that the fees are to be paid by both the parties-complainants and the respondents.
The Complainant (Ashok Dabas in this case) has given a written assurance to the Arbitrator that he will pay the fees if the respondents fail to do the same, sources claimed.
