Kaijs Bank Chairman Awade wins Maha election

There are news of several co-operators making it to Maharashtra Assembly elections. One of them is that of Prakashanna Awade, Chairman of Kaijis Bank.

Maharashtra based Multi State Scheduled Bank – Kaijs Bank Chairman Prakashanna Awade has won the State Legislative Election from Ichalkaranji, – an assembly seat in the West Maharashtra region.

He fought as an independent candidate with Pressure Cooker as his election symbol. Awade defeated BJP Candidate Suresh Ganapati Halwankar who received 67,076 votes whereas Awade got 1,16,886 votes.

In the 2014 Maharashtra Assembly elections, Suresh Ganpati Halvankar of the BJP had won the seat defeating the INC candidate by a margin of 15225 votes which was 7.61% of the total votes polled in the constituency. The BJP had a vote share of 47.08% in 2014 in the constituency.

As soon as he won the election, his enthusiastic supporters garlanded him. He profusely thanked everyone for their support. The seat went to the polls on Monday, October 21, 2019 and the counting of votes were held on Thursday, October 24, 2019.

It bears recall that the bank has over 44 branches across Maharashtra and Karnataka.
