The Sahakar Bharati efforts to revive cooperative movement in the state of Jharkhand seems to be fructifying with the Chief Minister Raghubar Das announcing of setting up of a number of co-op banks in the state.

Addressing a public meeting held in Project Bhawan, Dhurwa, Ranchi, Jharkhand, Chief Minister Raghubar Das said, “In an area of every 5 km we will open cooperative banks in the state”, media report

“The state government will send a proposal to RBI as well as direct the state officials to work on this subject. This will benefit everybody especially the pensioners in a big way”, said the CM.

At present, pensioners have to spend Rs 500 on travel to withdraw one thousand rupees. With a cooperative bank available within a short distance of five kilometers, they can easily go to banks and withdraw funds.

In the last couple of years Sahakar Bharati has held several meetings in the state. As early as last month it held a conference of dairy cooperatives in which CM also participated.

Sahakar Bharati has already knit women of the state in self-help groups and is coaching them into taking a plunge into profitable economic activities.
