Sunil Kumar Singh, the vociferous cooperator from Bihar has once again grabbed the top job at Biscomaun in an election held in Patna on Sunday, underling the fact that if your cooperative roots are strong the colour of the govt does not matter.

An avowed Laloo Yadav protégé Sunil’s reelection as the Chairman of state marketing co-op federation is also a lesson for them who lose their job with the change of the govt at state levels.

“A new govt imposes a leader in the co-op organization who has no roots and thus has to vacate as soon as the govt changes”, Sunil explained. It bears recall that Bihar is being ruled by JD(U)-BJP combine while Sunil owes allegiance to RJD.

Gopal Giri, a mild mannered man and known as Gandhi of co-op due to his soft approach, has been re-elected unopposed as the Vice-Chairman. Garlanded heavily soon after the results, the duo-Sunil and Giri presented a spectacular scene.

The newly elected Chairman vowed to achieve a retail sale of Rs 500 crore through its over 175 centers spread across Bihar and Jharkhand by the next year that is 2020. Sunil Kumar Singh who is also the Vice-Chairman of Nafed is said to have refused the top post at Nafed in favour of Bijender Singh.

Biscomaun new Board represents all political parties and all social formations, claimed Sunil. There are Congress MLA, JDU MLA and even BJP leader in the board, he said stressing the difference between cooperative politics from the electoral politics.

Jitendra Kumar and Amita Bhushan proposed and seconded the name of Sunil Kumar Singh respectively. Mahesh Rai and Vishundeo Rai did so in the case of Gopal Giri. “All the delegates numbering more than 200 assembled before the Returning Officer and demanded that I be declared a winner without going into the fruitless exercise of the elections but the wise RO pacified them and went ahead with the rulebook’, said Sunil narrating the passion of his supporters which was on display on Sunday. The impatient supporters garlanded the winners as soon as the results were announced by P.N.Singh.

Later, in a telephonic communication with Indian Cooperative correspondent, Sunil Singh said “Presently we have achieved a retail sale of Rs 375 crore but we are aiming to achieve a target of Rs 500 crore through our 175 centers spread across the states of Bihar and Jharkhand with the help of IFFCO”.

We are also planning to open 25 more centers across Bihar. If state government supports us we will store the surplus urea in our godowns to deal with the problem of shortage in the seasons. Besides, we are also aiming to start the seeds business and expand our consumer item business, Singh underlined.

The newly board consists of Chairman of 10 District Central Cooperative Banks, 2 state level federations Chairman including Bihar State Cooperative Bank, Consumer Cooperative Federation and 2 MLAs are elected unopposed.  More than 50% delegates are new this time.

Among the 17 elected directors, six are new comers. These include Hira Prasad Singh, Dhamdaha Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Parth Kumar Yadav, Chapra Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Ramesh Chandra Chaubey, Pragatisheel Krishak Sewa Swawlambi, Vinay Kumar, Guruwa Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti, Vishnudeo Rao, Hazipur Vaypar Mandal Sahakari Samiti.

Biscomaun board comprises of 21 directors out of which 17 are elected and usually two directors are co-opted.
