Woman seat: Is Jadhav a frontrunner in IFFCO elections?

Sadhana Jadhav, a woman cooperator belonging to the Nashik region in Maharashtra claims to be the front runner in filling the Board position reserved for the first time in the fertilizer cooperative titan IFFCO.

It bears recall that there would be contests for women seats where two candidates are left in the fray after the rejection of nomination papers of Jyoti Ram Gutte. Now Sadhana Jadhav ( from Nashik) and Dr Varsha Kasturkar (from Osmanabad) are in the fray each claiming to be better placed than the other.

Jadhav, who met this correspondent in IFFCO Marketing Director Yogendra Kumar’s Chamber narrated a dozen of reasons explaining how she is the fittest candidate for the post.

It is reported that Dr Kasturkar did not first come to file nomination but instead sent her husband to do this. The Returning Officer objected to this at which her husband said she is not able to come and file nomination. ”If she is unable to file even her nominations how can she attend the board meetings and conduct her role as a Director”, RO is reported to have pointed out.

Dr Kasturkar did come finally and filed her nominations, says the IFFCO election team.

While saying that she is ready to bow out of race if a better cooperator than her is around, Sadhana Jadhav narrated her plus points to this correspondent. “I have been two term RGB member and I head a 104 year old co-op organization named Vinchur Vividh Karyakari Sewa Sanstha, in the Vichur taluka of Nashik district in Maharashtra”, she stated.

I have been an active youth congress leader, having been District President of Nashik youth woman wing of the Party, she said. I am involved with at least eight co-op organizations in my area, she claimed further.

Readers would know that the fight for the lone woman board position is getting intense as 46 elected woman RGB members have to choose between the two candidates. The latter are wooing delegates who are spread across India. If Maharashtra has 10 women RGB members, Manipur has 7 followed by Odisha and Rajasthan which have 6 and 5 members respectively.

While Haryana, Mizoram, Tripura, Arunachal Pradesh and J & K have one each, Assam and Karnataka have 2 each women RGB members. Jadhav claimed to have contacted each of them and is assured of their support and her victory.

The voting would take place tomorrow on 10th May.
