SCDCC Bank: Sahakar Panel licks dust, Kumar Panel wins hands down

The Rajendra Kumar Panel has swept the election held on Friday for the board of directors of SCDCC roundly defeating the Sahakar Bharati panel. Mangaluru Sub-Division Assistant Commissioner Ravichandra Nayak who had been appointed as the returning officer announced the results of the election.

Soon after the election, the bank Chairman Rajendra Kumar said to this correspondent on the phone, “Our panel has won all the 16 seats and now the names of Chairman and Vice-Chairman will be announced before 5th April. Our counterpart, the Sahakar Bharati panel had to lick the dust”.

The prospects of Rajendra Kumar getting elected again to the top job of the bank are rated high. He is completing 25 years as the head of the bank on 31st March.

Kumar said, “Now we will focus on upgrading technologies in the bank. Providing loans at the reasonable rate of interest will be also our objective. We will also try to empower women .We will work for the welfare of the people”, he said.

He added that, “The bank will introduce a common software that will enable customers to make cashless transactions. The bank will also put more emphasis on ensuring education for the children of of over 30,000 self-help group members”,

“We will also open more branches in rural areas in the coming years and our areas of operation are Udupi and Mangalore in the state. Presently the bank is having 105 branches”, he noted.

Rajendra Kumar, Bhaskar S. Kotian, Vinay Kumar Surinje, K. Harishchandra, S. Raju Poojary, M.Mahesh Hegde, Deviprasad Shetty, B. Ashok Kumar Shetty, KS Devaraj, Shashikumar Rai B., M.Vadiraja Shetty, B. Niranjana, TG Rajaram Bhat, Monappa Shetty Ekkar, K. Jairaj B. Rai, S.B Rai are the candidates who have won the election.

Members of Taluk Agricultural Marketing Co-operative society, Urban Co-operative Bank, Primary agricultural credit co-operative society and Non-agricultural credit co-operative society voted in the election.

Later in a press conference held soon after the election, Rajendra Kumar said the bank has proposed to set up a urea plant of 12.5 lakh tonnes capacity at Harihar in Davanagere.

”The Bank has earned a profit to the tune of Rs 24.07 crore in the last FY. The bank has clocked a turnover of Rs 6748.48 crore and hope that we will achieve a business turnover of Rs 8,000 crore till the end of the current financial year, he said.
