Ramachandra Govind Naik Mule, senior cooperator from Goa and a member of NCUI’s Governing Council has been directed by the High Court of Bombay at Goa to appear before the Registrar of Co-operative Societies, Goa to argue his points against the ouster order that divested him from the Chairmanship of the state co-op union.
The Navhind Times reports that Mule has been asked to appear before the Registrar on November 2. The court has asked the registrar to hear Mule and pass order on his status based on the law. This judicial intervention has raised hopes in the Mule camp, which has been accusing BJP govt of being biased and partial.
It bears recall that Ramachandra Govind Naik Mule, Chairman of Goa Pradesh Rajya Sahakari Sangh was ousted as chairman in January this year after it was discovered that he was holding the post for over ten consecutive years.
Mule had challenged this order before the High Court. Mule’s ouster from state co-op union also means his ouster from the apex national body National Cooperative Union of India, says co-op experts. Mule is in GC on the basis of being the Chairman of state co-op union, they point out.
Mule is also facing charges in the Goa State Co-op Bank where it is being alleged that some of the Directors entered allegedly into criminal breach of trust and cheating, to the tune of over 30 crore.
Mule and his core group were earlier ousted from the Goa State Co-op Bank where Ulhas Phaldesai, elder brother of BJP MLA Subhash Phaldesai grabbed the top post with the help of Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar who successfully engineered defection to win over Mule’s two of the loyalists, allege Mule’s supporters.
The Goa state cooperative bank is the fulcrum of the cooperative sector in the state. The bank claims a total deposit of Rs 11000 crore.
