NCUI: Angry Prez divest Mishra off PR responsibilities
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

NCCT Secretary Mohan Mishra who was doubling up as media and PR department head of the national apex co-op body NCUI has been divested off his additional responsibilities on Monday. Mishra’s failure to organize the closing ceremony of the Co-op Week, as promised by him earlier to the President of NCUI Dr Chandra Pal Singh seems to have triggered the move, say sources.

Sanjay Verma has been asked to take care of Media and PR responsibilities and he has been asked not to report to Mishra anymore. He has to directly report to the CE, add sources.

It bears recall that the President, Vice-Presidents, Chief Executive and other senior leaders were away to Malaysia attending the important ICA General Assembly. The meeting is held as the most important global co-operative event as even the elections of the newly constituted board took place during the event.

Talking to Indian Cooperative NCUI President Yadav had expressed his helplessness in missing out most of the Co-op Week but promised to make it up by organizing a gala closing ceremony on his return on 20th November.

Yadav, sources said was livid with anger on his return when his enquiry revealed that Mishra had done nothing in this direction. Frustrated he asked the CE N Satyanarayan in the first half of Monday to find a suitable guest. A desperate CE called many dignitaries but due to shortage of time he failed to get one.

Sources add that before Chandra Pal had embarked on his trip to Malaysia , he called the meeting of all the officials above Deputy Directors of NCUI and told them that as both he and the CE would be away those ready to volunteer to oversee the Co-op Week should come forward. Mishra was the one who volunteered to take care of the show. But he did nothing perhaps with ulterior motives, accuse some top officials in NCUI.

Worse still was the fact, Mishra did not inform either the President or the Chief Executive on time about his inability to find a guest. Chandra Pal had Radha Mohan Singh or Purshottam Rupala as guests in mind but all went wrong due to Mishra’s callousness, add sources. Chandra Pal also got angry with Mishra as it was not NCUI but Mishra himself who had volunteered at the time of his departure.

Many officials hold the view that Mishra’s act of not finding a guest is deliberate as he wanted to convince the Ministry of the lack of sincerity among cooperators for the Co-op Week. But he perhaps underestimated the importance of the global co-operative event where IFFCO’s candidate brought laurels to the country by winning with the highest margin. NCUI had played a decisive role in obtaining this coveted position in the international cooperative body.
