NCUI’s training arm National Centre for Cooperative Education (NCCE) kicked off its three month course titled “Diploma in Cooperative Education and Development” at its headquarters in Delhi last week in the presence of several high-profile guests including Kribhco MD and TRIFED MD, among others.

The ambitious course which awards certificates at the end is being attended by more than 25 participants from many of the neighboring countries including Nepal and Mauritius as well as Indian participants from different cooperative bodies. Several participants from neighboring countries including Bangladesh could not make it to the show because of VISA issues, informed Ramesh Kaul, one of the organizers of the show.

While addressing the gathering present on the occasion, TRIFED Managing Director Pravir Krishna (IAS) rued the lack of markets for tribal products.  Tribals are not much educated and sell their produce in the local market through which they only get 20 percent and the rest by the middlemen. So it is time to think about them and improve their life with the help of the cooperative movement, Krishna said.

He also talked of tying-up with Amazon, Flipkart and other e-commerce websites to sell the products made by tribals, he added.

In his remarks, KRIBHCO Managing Director N.Sambasiva Rao described NCUI as the engine of growth and development of the cooperative movement in India and said it is evident from NCCE conducting various programmes for cooperative Chairmen, Directors and Members.

Explaining the existence of the cooperative movement, Rao said India’s cooperative movement is 100 years old and has had a major impact on rural India. Almost 100 percent of the country’s villages are covered by cooperatives, he added.

As per their bye-laws, KRIBHCO and IFFCO can sell their products only through cooperative societies and it is a unique feature in our country. And therefore those working in cooperatives should know their responsibilities, Kribhco MD said.

Dr V.K.Dubey informed about the programmes being conducted by NCCE to train the officials as well as members of cooperatives. About 150 programmes are being organized by NCCE in a year.

NCUI, CE, N.Satyanaryana said India’s Cooperative movement is the largest movement of the world having 8.3 lakh cooperatives and about 35 crore people as its members.

Referring to ICMs and RICMs, he said there are twenty cooperative institutions located in different states which are conducting different types of programs for cooperators. Pune based Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Co-operative Management is playing an important role in Training, he added.

NCHF Managing Director, N.S.Mehra, NLCF, MD, Pratibha Ahuja, FISHCOPFED, MD, B.K.Mishra, NCCE officials and other dignitaries were present on the occasion.
