Boosting Co-ops: Vietnam PM seeks ICA help

Addressing the 10th Asia-Pacific Co-operative Ministers’ Conference in Hanoi the Vietnamese Prime Minister Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc said the govt of Vietnam is committed to usher in cooperative revolution in the country.

Government have paid special to co-operative development, considering it as an important model for national development as around 70% of the country’s population lives in rural areas and we plan to increase the number of co-operatives by 15,000 by 2020, Phuc is quoted saying y local media.

Recounting several moves the govt has taken he said the Law on Co-operatives were amended three times and a resolution was adopted to kick-start the cooperative movement in the country in a big way, reports Vietnamese media.

Ministers’ Conference is being hosted by the ICA-AP, together with the Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA), and the Government of Vietnam from April 18-21, 2017 in Hanoi.

Cooperative leaders from several countries stressed that the Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations are achievable only through a partnership between Governments and Co-operatives.

Several cooperative leaders from India led by NCUI President Dr Chandra Pal Singh are participating in the event. More than 100 international delegates from 21 countries are sharing their experiences. Earlier, Chandra Pal met the Prime Minister of Vietnam along with several cooperators of Asia-Pacific countries.

It bears recall that Vietnam is hosting 10th Asia-Pacific Co-operative Ministers’ Conference in Hanoi in which over 100 delegates are taking part. They are practically drawn from all the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. While the President of ICA A-P comes from China, two Vice-Presidents are from Japan and India respectively.

The apex cooperative body of Vietnam called Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) has partnered with ICA Asia-Pacific to host this conference.

Next that is 11th Asia-Pacific Co-operative Ministers’ Conference would be held in Iran.
