While it may be difficult for Indian cooperative leaders to meet their own Prime Minister, it is not so at least in Vietnam. The President of the apex cooperative body in the country Dr Chandra Pal Singh Yadav met the Prime Minister of Vietnam on Thursday.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc of Vietnam, who was recently in news for halting a $10.6 billion steel plant in the country on the grounds of environmental worries, received the delegation of cooperative leaders with warmth and friendliness.

Posing photos with Chandra Pal and others Mr Nguyen Xuan Phuc heard the leaders expound on the merits of the cooperative movement.

It bears recall that Vietnam is hosting 10th Asia-Pacific Co-operative Ministers’ Conference in Hanoi in which over 100 delegates are taking part. They are practically drawn from all the countries of the Asia-Pacific region. While the President of ICA A-P comes from China, two Vice-Presidents are from Japan and India respectively.

Earlier, on Wednesday Vietnam’s Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh had addressed the conference calling for forging strong regional links of unity in the region.

The apex cooperative body of Vietnam called Vietnam Cooperative Alliance (VCA) has partnered with ICA Asia-Pacific to host this conference.

Prominent leaders attending the conference are busy hammering out a road map for achieving ‘ Sustainable Development Goals of United Nations’, said a delegate.
