I am resident of Baroda. I am in final year of MBA and after completing my my I would like work with farmers to bring change in their life. I was thinking about starting a fruits and vegetables cooperative. I would like to know in detail what is the procedure to register the cooperative society? How much fund is required? What are the other challenges that I might face.

I hope you will reply soon.

I C Naik

You have to prepare a Blue Print of your Business idea. Discuss with at least 10 farmers to have their acceptance and willingness to support your activity wholeheartedly as their own collective venture. Then you assess business volume and working capital requirements, funds farmers can pull in. Discuss the project with a Cooperative Bank and assess how much loan the Bank will give.

Now you need to present it to the Deputy Registrar of Societies of the area where you want to set up the business. Take 4-5 farmers with you to bank as well as DR’s office to convince them. If DR is convinced that you have made a plan economically viable he will ask one of his officers to help you register a Society. If you are not able to proceed at any stage and feel stuck up. Do write to us.
